Proform 590 T Compared to Gold’s Gym Club Trainer 690

We’ve got a couple of budget treadmills fighting for their place today. Our treadmills today are the Proform 590T and the Golds Gym Club Trainer 690.

Both of these treadmills are quite small. Both of them are made of inexpensive parts, and are priced at a very cheap price. I am always prone to try to compare these to more high end treadmills, but I will try to resist and only compare them to eachother. I say it all the time, if you want a treadmill, plan to spend more than this. While yes, these low priced treadmills are available, and although these 2 are probably better than most, you will still probably end up saving money in the long run by buying a long lasting treadmill. However, having said that, I know that many people are still going to buy cheap treadmills, so for you, I will try to give you some guidance.

Let’s throw in the extra features first to get them out of the way. We’ll start with the screens. Everyone likes a nice screen on their console. The screen and aesthetics of the console are important not so much in the quality of the treadmill, but in the user experience. Just like the reason so many people are in love with Macs and Apple products. Look and design means a lot to people these days. Anyway, the Proform screen is a small blue backlit LCD screen with a few different specs on it. It’s not bad. The Gold’s Gym screen is like an alarm clock. A few big numbers is all. The whole console on the Proform is much better. The Proform 590T has Ifit cards that you can buy and plugin which have a bunch of exercises that are coached by personal trainers like Jillian Michaels. The gold’s Gym has 12 built in workouts.

The Motor on both is 2.25 CHP. This is pretty small for a functional or reliable treadmill. I have more confidence in the Proform motor, but I would only suggest these for very light people, who run softly, slowly and seldom. It’s more meant for a good power walk. The weight capacity on the Proform is 300 lbs compared to the Gold’s Gym’s 250lbs. I was already hesitant with the Gold’s Gym, but with a 250 lb weight limit, it’s just more evidence that this treadmill is not meant to hold up to much.

The treadbelt on the Proform is 20″ x 55″ compared to the gold’s Gym’s 17″ x 50″. That may only sound like a few inches, but it’s a dramatic difference when you actually step onto the treadmill. Anything less than 20″ x 55″ starts to feel cramped. The cushioning on both are there, but the Proform’s cushioning is more pronounced and works better. Both can reach up to 10MPH, but the Gold’s Gym can reach only 5% incline while the Proform can reach 10%. Although it looks like it, I’m not trying to pick on the Gold’s Gym Club Trainer 690. It just happens to be inferior to the Proform 590T in almost every aspect.

Here’s a little comparison table:

Proform Performance 900

  • 2.25 CHP motor
  • 20″ x 55″ running deck
  • 300 lb weight limit
  • 10MPH
  • 10% Incline
  • Small, blue, backlit LCD window
  • Fold Up
  • Dual Grip EKG heart Rate
  • Protech Cushioning
  • Ifit Cards
  • 12 built in workouts
  • Lifetime Frame, 25 year motor
  • 1 year parts and labor
Gold’s Gym Club Trainer 690

  • 2.25 CHP motor
  • 17″ x 50″ running deck
  • 250 lb weight limit
  • 10MPH
  • 5% Incline

  • Fold Up
  • Dual Grip EKG heart Rate
  • StepTech Cushioning
  • No Ifit
  • 12 built in workouts

Well, that about wraps it up for these 2. The Gold’s Gym Club Trainer 690 loses. The Proform 590T wins!

About My Treadmill Reviews

TreadmillMy treadmill reviews are both subjective and objective. They are objective in the sense that I will provide you with information about each machine, such as motor, weight capacity and other features. But they are subjective in the sense that I am really giving my opinion of each treadmill. You may agree or disagree with my opinion, but my hope is that my elliptical and treadmill reviews can be helpful to you in making a decision on what to buy. Remember that each review is just what I think. You can always check out Treadmill Doctor, Treadmill Review Guru or these other treadmill reviews if you want another opinion.
