The Proform Performance 900

Has anyone bought a Proform Performance 900 lately? It’s been sitting quietly for a while now. I know that it’s selling a lot, but haven’t heard much about it as far as questions, complaints, praises, or anything. I guess usually that’s a good thing, the people that are buying them don’t seem to be having any issues with it. Before recently I’ve never really spent much time with the machine. But, I’ve been checking it out recently, so I figured I’d let you all know what I think.

The entire Proform Performance series is a very highly marketed line. Currently there are 4 treadmills in the line. The 400, the 600, the 900, and the 1450. Where these numbers come from, I have no idea, but these treadmills sell A LOT. Just because a treadmill sells a lot, doesn’t always mean something about its quality. However, sometimes it does. These treadmills are built to sell fast. Some compromises in the quality of the material and design have to be made in order to make it cheaper. However, that’s okay with a lot of consumers now a days. And to find a treadmill with the amount of features these have got, in the price range these are in, without those compromises just won’t happen. Just make sure you get these machines when they’re on sale. If this one isn’t, but another one is, then go for the other. Proform really offers some amazing sales now and then.

The Proform Performance 900, while not Proform’s strongest model, is a strong and solid treadmill. Everything is put together well, and what you get is a quiet, smooth, and solid feel while you run on it. The motor says it’s a 3.0 CHP Commercial Grade Mach Z motor. You sometimes have to be careful with these claims, because sometimes they seem to just pull these numbers out of a hat. However, this motor lives true to its claim, so I give it a thumbs up for power. The belt is almost full sized: 56″ instead of the full 60″. Not a big deal. The deck is strong and quiet. It holds me up fine, and it can hold up to a maximum of 350lbs. This is 350lbs running, not just standing. The frame is a strong material, and has a lifetime warranty on it anyway, so that’s fine. It doesn’t rattle or squeak when you run on it, so that’s a big plus. The Console offers all the cool new stuff except a web browser. The MP3/Ipod connection, and the built-in speakers are great. The workout fan works well.

Everything seems to be put together well. And the ratings and reviews by consumers don’t seem to indicate any significant amount of problems with any particular parts. The warranty gives you a lifetime coverage on the frame and motor, as well as 3 years on parts, and 1 year on labor. This is above average in the industry.

There’s a lot more I could go over, but these are the things any consumer would be concerned with. The durability on this machine should be decent, depending on your size and your intensity level. However big or strong or fast you are, it should last you years to come. It’s a very decent treadmill for the price class it’s in, and I’d say the attention it gets is well warranted.
