Smooth Agile DMT X2 Elliptical Review

The Smooth Agile DMT X2 Elliptical is a well built machine, packed with features that truly lives up to its name. It is Smooth and Agile!

The Smooth Agile DMT X2 Elliptical starts with a rear drive system. It is a simpler design that better captures a true elliptical motion and will eventually lead to less maintenance. The Agile X2 has an adjustable stride length of 18” to 21”. It has a foot print of 74” x 32” and is 63” tall. Fully assembled it weighs 223 lbs.

Smooth Agile DMT

Ohiyo!

Today I got the chance to personally review the new Smooth Agile DMT (Dynamic Motion Trainer), and it is everything I could have asked for in an Elliptical and more. At first sight I thought someone brought back an elliptical from the future, and in a sense the Sensei was right. The Agile DMT is the next generation in elliptical trainers and it is easy to see why. Where all other ellipticals struggle, this single machine excels.

One new part about the Agile is the fact that unlike most other elliptical machines, this machine actually works the upper body and abdominals. Unlike other machines, which will take your body along for the ride, and focus mostly on the legs, the Agile forces your upper body to work and push itself throughout the workout.

Another surprising change in elliptical workouts with this machine is the monotony of continuous movement along a single direction and repetitive movements. This is once again where the Agile rises above the pack introducing variable workouts, which vary in intensity, and also the muscles worked during the training. And provides a great workout for anyone with stride lengths varying from 19-39 inches, and a weight of 390lbs, makes this the most sturdy, and versatile trainer on the market.

The physical workout is not all that’s new to the Agile either. With the major changes in design and purpose Smooth also made a few changes to the controls, adding thumb controls in addition to the console controls, allowing you to change intensity without having to take your hands off the handles. These controls allow for over 240 different workouts including 12 different types of movement, all on the same machine.

Add to this award winning package is Smooth’s famous warrantee. With the purchase of an Agile DMT, Smooth guarantees a lifetime warrantee on the frame, and a 5-year warrantee on all other parts.

Despite the price tag on this Trainer, the Agile is worth every penny, and then some. With Smooth’s innovation of the elliptical, Treadmill Sensei gives the Smooth Agile DMT 4 out of 5 golden buddahs.

Smooth Fitness Brand Review – The Grandfather of Internet Fitness

Ohiyo!

In spite of having run this website since June 2006, the Treadmill Sensei is actually pretty internet and computer ignorant. Now, I have been online since the mid 1990s, but I’ve only ever used my computer for email and for playing games online (something I enjoy, but have less and less time for every day). The idea of starting a “blog” was completely alien to me and I didn’t even know what that term meant until my wife and daughter suggested I start one after hearing me complain about the shady dealings of other treadmill review sites for the thousandth time. I guess that was their way of telling me to “shut up” about it!

Smooth Fitness, on the other hand, has been one of the leading fitness websites since around 1996 and is easily the most successful treadmill/elliptical manufacturer online. Smooth Fitness as a fitness retailer has been around since the early 80s but has only been producing the Smooth treadmills and ellipticals since the late 90s.

Because Smooth sells its units direct to customers instead of going through retail outlets, there are no additional costs associated with a “middleman.” What that means is Smooth can sell its higher end units at a much lower cost, allowing a customer to buy a near commercial quality unit for a very low price. You can see the difference of going manufacturer direct by comparing a $999 Smooth 5.25 to most everything in its price range…the Smooth will out-perform just about everything.

In the past Smooth’s ellipticals were a bit under featured and over-priced, but they’ve taken a huge step in the right direction this year. With new longer strides, better consoles and great pricing, the Smooth CE2.1 and CE 3.2 ellipticals are now some of the best units in the $1000-$1700 price range. Smooth’s star unit is its Smooth CE 7.4 Elliptical, which is one of the finest units just under $2000 and one of the best rear drive ellipticals ever produced for the home market.

If you’re looking for top of the line treadmills between $1000 and $2000, then Smooth should be at the top of your list.

The Smooth CE 3.2 Elliptical Review — Exciting 2008 Upgrade

Ohiyo!

I’ve already reviewed a version of the Smooth CE3.2 Elliptical with my CE2.1 Elliptical review. The Smooth CE3.2 is an upgraded version of the CE2.1, with a slightly higher end LED console, wireless heart rate monitoring, the addition of 9 user profiles and a longer parts warranty.

The Smooth CE3.2 has a very solid, smooth and comfortable elliptical feel to it, and is one of the better designed rear drive ellipticals. The 18″ stride, articulating foot pedals and great pedal placement give the CE3.2 the same natural motion the CE2.1 elliptical has.

While I do like the feel of the Smooth CE3.2 elliptical and the additional features it has, I’d recommend the Smooth CE2.1 over the CE3.2. For the money, I feel the CE2.1 is a better value at under $1300. The upgraded console and wireless heart rate monitor are great for those looking for to refine their workouts, but for most people the pulse grip heart rate monitor should be more than enough.

For being a very decent addition to the Smooth line, the Treadmill Sensei gives the Smooth CE 3.2 Elliptical 4 out of 5 golden buddahs.

The Smooth CE7.4 Elliptical — Smooth in name and performance

Ohiyo!

The Treadmill Sensei hasn’t done many Smooth Fitness equipment reviews at this point and I wanted to rectify that. We just received in a fantastic Smooth CE 7.4 Elliptical here at the DOJO and I knew that I needed to review. You see, since 1997, Smooth Fitness has been producing some of the best fitness equipment on the internet. I say “on the internet” because Smooth sells its product direct to consumers online. There are no real Smooth Fitness dealers aside from places like Amazon. One of the great things about that is it lets Smooth control its product and the quality of its distribution. They don’t need to worry about shady dealers selling out of warranty product or rippping off their potential customers.

2008 Ichi-Ban Best Buy Award Winner.

Smooth really and truly puts out some great treadmills and ellipticals. Today, I’d like to go over one of their top units, the Smooth CE 7.4 Elliptical. While I ranked the CE7.4 elliptical as coming in second to the SportsArt 803, it was a tough choice. Both of these units are great and only the adjustable stride on the SportsArt let it take the top spot.

First and foremost, the Smooth CE 7.4 Elliptical is incredibly solid and has one of the smoothest (no pun intended) feels in any elliptical at any price. This things are like riding on a cloud. The reason for the great ride is the sturdiness of the CE7.4, the very heavy duty flywheel (30+ pounds I’d guess), the articulating footpads which mimic natural foot movement, and their rollerless design. Any of these factors alone would make for a nice elliptical, but Smooth puts them all together in their CE7.4 elliptical and the result is one of the best all around ellipticals on the market.

If you’re looking for the best of the best in ellipticals, and easily one of the best under $2000, then check out the Smooth CE7.4 elliptical. For being damn good, the Smooth CE7.4 gets 4.5 out of 5 golden buddahs from the Treadmill Sensei!

The Smooth CE2.1 Elliptical Review — Upgraded for 2008

Ohiyo!

Today may be one of the best days of the Treadmill Sensei’s life…or at least the best in a very long time. The reason for this great day being my wife’s family has finally vacated our house! We dropped them off at LAX this morning at 6am and, for the first time in almost a month, I can look forward to a hot shower tomorrow morning. The good times are here again!

Let’s talk about some fitness equipment!

Smooth Fitness is one of the fastest growing fitness companies in the USA and produces some of the finest equipment on the market. They started out a few years ago, much like Sole Fitness, as a repackaging company for Spirit manufactured equipment. Since then they’ve moved on to produce their units overseas. After a bumpy year or two, they’ve really nailed high quality equipment for a great price. Smooth has very quickly become the #1 manufacturer of high quality fitness equipment in the $1000-$2000 price range because of that high quality and spectacular customer service.

Here at the DOJO we get a lot of Smooth units here to take out and install at customer homes. We very rarely get units in to do repairs on. These machines are built to hold up to pretty heavy duty workouts and are low, low maintenance. I would be more than fine giving one of their units to my mother-in-law without fear of being nagged to death with problems from it!

Last year we reviewed the old Smooth CE2.1 and it was a bit of an under performer. The unit itself was very solidly constructed, but its all-too-short 16″ stride was a deal breaker for us. For an upper end elliptical to have less than an 18″ stride was, I thought, a bit of a let down. Luckily, Smooth has listened to the rumblings and, with the release of the 2008 Smooth CE2.1 Elliptical, have increased the stride length to an excellent 18″. Finally, the Smooth CE2.1 feels as comfortable and as “smooth” as its name. The new stride design features one of the most natural feeling elliptical motions on a unit and Smooth’s rollerless technology is still one of the quietest designs on the market. The silent drive on the Smooth CE2.1 is very cool for those who live in apartments or hate the loud noises some lower quality ellipticals made during workouts.

Their ellipticals in general are good machines with a great feel. The crossbrace system they use for the front of their units helps to produce a very sturdy workout platform. Add to that the pivoting foot pedals and proper pedal distance and you have an incredibly comfortable elliptical on your hands…and your feet. The Smooth units are some of the only rear drive ellipticals in this price range which will not cause your feet to fall asleep during longer workouts. The addition of the longer stride to that mix makes the Smooth CE2.1 and obvious choice for anyone looking for a best buy elliptical for under $1500 with the unit coming in at just under $1300.

The Smooth CE 2.1 Elliptical features a nice stride length, 9 programs, pulse grip heart rate monitoring, and supports reverse motion workouts, a feature not often found in non-commercial ellipticals. Their 3:1 upper body resistance is a nice added feature for those who want to get a little additional upper body workout during their elliptical exercise.

It is great to see a manufacturer actually upgrading a unit with needed features and without increasing its price. The new 18″ stride Smooth CE2.1 is set to become one of the top rated ellipticals in its price range. For that reason the Treadmill Sensei gives the Smooth CE2.1 Elliptical 4.5 out of 5 golden buddahs.

About My Treadmill Reviews

TreadmillMy treadmill reviews are both subjective and objective. They are objective in the sense that I will provide you with information about each machine, such as motor, weight capacity and other features. But they are subjective in the sense that I am really giving my opinion of each treadmill. You may agree or disagree with my opinion, but my hope is that my elliptical and treadmill reviews can be helpful to you in making a decision on what to buy. Remember that each review is just what I think. You can always check out Treadmill Doctor or these other treadmill reviews if you want another opinion.
