Freemotion 770 Interactive vs. Sole S77

The treadmill battle begins as the Sole S77 challenges the Freemotion 770 Interactive to a dual.

These two treadmills we’re comparing today are in the $1,800 Price range, making them near the top of the home models market. With these two stalwart treadmills, we should find some pretty impressive specifications, so dive into them and check them out.

The motor: Well, I’m not going to say anything I haven’t said before, but in case you’re new to these reviews I will say it again. No matter what technical people try to say, a bigger motor is better. There may be a few instances where a smaller motor is built and designed better than a bigger motor, making it the better choice. But in general the smaller the motor, the harder it has to work, the hotter it gets, and the quicker it wears itself out. Bigger motors are in most cases, stronger and more durable. So with that being said, these motors are both about the same size, so I don’t know why I said all that. Both are 3.5 Horsepower which is about standard for this price. There are a few treadmills with bigger motors at this price, but 3.5 is pretty standard. The Sole motor is smoother, quieter, and designed better than the Freemotion in this case.

The weight capacity of the Sole is 400 lb pounds which means this machine is built right. The treadmill has that strong, grounded, solid feel that you should look for in a quality model. The deck should never break or crack at all, and the frame isn’t going to break. If the frame or deck or do break you’ve got a lifetime warranty on them, so it won’t be much of a problem at all. The Freemotion on the other hand has a 350 lb weight capacity. This is smaller and more standard. It’s strong enough to hold, but it’s not quite as impressive as the few models who go the extra mile and offer a 400 lb limit. Also, the deck isn’t covered for life on the Freemotion, so if it ever has problems, if the parts warranty has expired you’re on your own.

The Console is where the Freemotion picks up the ball. The Freemotion is equipped with a 10″ full color touch screen web browser. It’s connected to Ifit live, so it can simulate trails and use all the awesome features on Ifit. These displays are great, and make having a treadmill more worth it. I am easily swayed by a nice console with great functionality, but I try to remember that the quality and strength of the treadmill is more important. So, while although the freemotion’s touch screen web browser with Ifit totally blows the Sole S77’s blue backlit display out of the water, it’s important to remember that there’s a lot more to a treadmill than the console.

With the extra bulk, the extra quality, and the extra warranty on the Deck, I’m going to have to give it up to the Sole S77 today. Nice job Sole, on an excellent treadmill.
