Golds Gym Trainer 480The Golds Gym Trainer 480

Okay, this is probably one of the cheapest treadmills I’ll ever review. The Golds’ Gym Trainer 480 is a very very budget treadmill. The current price is going for $377 dollars. How they can be making money on a treadmill at this price is beyond me. $377 gets you basically, a slab of wood, a 1 ply belt, and a tiny 1.5 HP motor, all covered in plastic to keep it together for a while.

If you’re light, and just like to walk, then this should be fine. If you like to run, you’re going to wish you bought a stronger treadmill soon. Either way, if you do buy this treadmill, make sure to buy the extended warranty.

I’m not exactly trying to ‘warn’ anyone from buying this treadmill. I just want to inform anyone who plans to buy a treadmill at this price, what it’s meant for, and what it’s not meant for. Walking, not running. Light people, not Heavy.

The deck just isn’t strong enough to support a heavy person running. The small motor, could get burned out if you work it too hard. Yes it goes up to 10MPH, but that doesn’t mean you should! It also claims a 300 lb weight limit. Not exactly sure how they came up with that number. The only thing i can imagine is that they had a 300 lb person carefully step up onto it for a few seconds and it didn’t break. The belt is a small 18″ x 50″ area.

Basically what I’m getting at, is this is a small, light machine. The materials are inexpensive to keep it inexpensive to customers. As much as it’s not exactly what i would recommend as an ideal treadmill there is a good side to it. Which is why I decided to review it in the first place. I have never found a treadmill for this price with even close to what this treadmill offers.

Although it doesn’t offer much. Compared to other brand’s treadmills at this price, this is a piece of art. Usually you can’t find treadmills at this price made of practically anything more than cardboard. A lot at this price don’t even have motors. You can get down to the $200 dollar Weslos.

This one at least works, and will hold up for a time. If you’re gentle with it, you shouldn’t have to deal with too many issues for a while. The warranty give it 90 days on parts and labor, and 5 years on the motor. So, for those first 90 days you can at least run pretty much worry free. If you get an extended warranty, your worry free time will be even longer.

Here’s a list of specs here:

  • 1.5 HP Motor
  • 300 lb weight capacity
  • 10MPH
  • 10% Incline
  • 18″ x 50″ treadbelt
  • Airstride Plus Cushioning
  • 8 built-in workouts
  • dual grip heart rate monitor
  • LCD Window
  • Warranty: 5 year Motor, 90 day parts and labor

If you can afford the expense of a higher-end treadmill, I would recommend making the investment. It will save you a lot of hassle in the future. However, if you’ve come to the market with a $400 dollar budget looking for the best thing you can get your hands on, I would actually recommend this treadmill as one of the best in this price. Just be gentle. Good Luck!

About My Treadmill Reviews

TreadmillMy treadmill reviews are both subjective and objective. They are objective in the sense that I will provide you with information about each machine, such as motor, weight capacity and other features. But they are subjective in the sense that I am really giving my opinion of each treadmill. You may agree or disagree with my opinion, but my hope is that my elliptical and treadmill reviews can be helpful to you in making a decision on what to buy. Remember that each review is just what I think. You can always check out Treadmill Doctor, Treadmill Review Guru or these other treadmill reviews if you want another opinion.
